Casa das Penhas Golden Hotel Design and Spa is a charming Hotel of four stars situated in the Serra da Estrela, the 1500 meters of altitude, in the middle of the Serra da Estrela Natural Park, with a unique mountain landscape.
Is located in the beautiful and unspoilt mountain resort of Golden Rocks,
the first of its kind in Portugal, founded in the late 19th century, which today reveals a
set of chalets, very interesting examples of mountain architecture

Perfectly integrated in the environment, inspired by local architecture and using
natural materials like Cork, that covers and insulates the outside one of the buildings
from the hotel, or the Birch wood, which is inwardly, Casa das Penhas
Golden has its genesis in concerns and good environmental practices aligned with
the values of the Natural Park where it operates.
The hotel has 17 rooms and one suite, all with panoramic views of the mountains,
central heating, cable TV, DVD player, wi-fi, i-pod player. The rooms are coated Birch wood creating an intimate ambience and great comfort.
The rooms have views over the Sierra, a vast library and parts of Nordic designers and
Portuguese, as Hans Wegner, Bruno Mathsson, Borg Mogensen, Pedro Silva Dias,
Pedro Brigid.
One of the rooms has a movie screen, multimedia system, and can be adapted to living room
with capacity for 25 people.
The hotel has a heated indoor pool with panoramic view, hydromassage and
sauna. Don't miss the experience of a warm bath in sight of snow surrounding the pool.
The hotel also has a Mountain SPA with several treatment rooms, a shower
Vichy, a relaxation room. The SPA has designed a set of rituals, of
massage and signature treatments in which aromatized oils are used with
herbs of the Serra da Estrela and Terraké products from Thalgo.
The hotel's gourmet cuisine based on local products though, and has the Consulting Chef Luis Baena with whom we have created various menus which blend traditional products of our region with a touch irreverent and groundbreaking, making every meal a unique gourmet experience.
Meanwhile, outside, nature is, of course, the biggest attraction. The more than 250 km of marked hiking routes from the hotel, which can be made with or without hotel guide, invites our guests to lost amid the landscape, taking a picnic with them or a simple drink hot.
During the summer, when the mountain is covered in green, the region also has much to offer such as the rivers and lagoons of mild and clean water (approximately 800 metres from the hotel) that are a wonderful alternative to the overcrowded beaches.
We also have bicycles and kayaks that are at the disposal of our guests for other adventures. In addition, we also offer our services of maintenance and repair of bicycles, in a small area of the hotel, being that we integrate the restricted list of Bikotels nationals.
During the winter, we have snow raquettes for day trips, which may be made in autonomy or with a guide.
Because we care about traditions and knowledge that cross generations, rebuilt a wool factory where the old machinery still hear and where produce burel a wool fabric typically used by shepherds on their covers that run away now from the imaginary history and is applied in unique pieces, pulsating colors dyed and with a contemporary design and passionate. No doubt the visit.
